Role: SEO Specialist
Type: Regular Exempt
Location: Remote
UMGC is hiring an SEO Specialist to enhance its long-term SEO strategy, focusing on increasing website traffic and visibility for online academic programs. Key responsibilities include link building, content creation, and collaboration across departments such as development and marketing—aiming to improve site authority and drive customer acquisition. The ideal candidate should be proactive, highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently while also fostering teamwork.
Primary Duties
- Strategy Development and Execution – Work with SEO Manager and Director of Digital Marketing & SEO to plan and lead the execution of natural search engine traffic and revenue growth strategies, including increasing keyword rankings. Use real-time reports to create targeted strategies for improving organic search rankings
- Content Optimization and Keyword Management – Conduct keyword research, optimize existing content, and collaborate with content teams to ensure all new content aligns with SEO best practices. Implement on-page SEO techniques to improve content performance
- Performance Analysis and Reporting – Develop regular reporting to communicate progress of SEO strategy execution and contribute to quarterly reviews. Manage analytics reporting and communicate regularly with teams
- SEO Trend Analysis and Strategy Adaptation – Leverage findings and insights to build upon and reassess the SEO roadmap, staying on pace with search algorithm trends and mitigating negative effects from algorithm updates
- Link Building – Execute and support link building outreach strategies while auditing current backlinks. Audit site for duplications, document findings, and follow through on remediation
- Team Support and Collaboration – Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support the Director of Digital Marketing & SEO, SEO Manager, and Technical SEO Manager, ensuring cohesive teamwork across all SEO initiatives.
Required Education and Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution with emphasis in marketing and communications or related field.
Experience:
3 to 5 years of experience with the following:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects to completion in a fast-paced environment
- Confidence in making SEO recommendations and educating others about content strategies
- Understanding of SEO best practices, particularly in content optimization and link-building strategies
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Proficiency in using SEO tools such as Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and SEMrush
- Experience with keyword research tools and techniques
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS)
- Ability to analyze and interpret SEO data to drive decision-making
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Hiring Range:
$70,000.00 – $85,000.00
