About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and innovative SEO Director to lead our SEO team and drive organic search growth for our publishing brands. With a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in the media industry, you will play a critical role in shaping and executing our SEO strategy across multiple brands. This position requires a blend of strategic vision and tactical expertise, ensuring that our content is optimized for maximum visibility and engagement. You will lead a team of SEO managers and will be responsible for leading, mentoring, and growing their expertise and responsibilities.

About You:

You are a seasoned SEO professional with over 8 years of experience, specifically in the publishing or media industry. You have a proven track record of driving organic search growth and are adept at both hands-on execution and managing a team of individuals to execute your data-driven recommendations. You are data-driven, curious, and always eager to test new tools and tactics. Your leadership skills are top-notch, and you excel at building and mentoring high-performing teams. You are comfortable working with cross-functional teams, including editorial, technical SEO, data strategy, and product development, to achieve shared goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of SEO managers and analysts, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment
  • Develop and execute comprehensive SEO content-driven strategies to drive organic search traffic to our digital properties
  • Regularly audit and measure the effectiveness of our content, providing actionable insights and recommendations
  • Perform competitor and SERP analysis to identify opportunities, stay ahead of industry trends, and identify areas of risk
  • Determine what content strategies to iterate on and what to deprioritize based on data/results
  • Help optimize for various SERP features and understand Google Discover to enhance traffic, experimenting with different formats or sources to leverage our content in new ways
  • Partner with editorial teams and identify knowledge gaps for training opportunities
  • Collaborate with product and development teams on template enhancements, site health, or recirculation opportunities
  • Run ad hoc reporting, using tools like SEMRush, Sistrix, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, and Looker, and provide insights to support decision-making processes
  • Continuously seek and implement workflow enhancements and technological solutions to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the SEO team
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest SEO and industry trends, tools, and best practices, continuously testing and implementing new strategies

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of SEO experience, with direct experience working with publishers or media companies
  • Experience in web analytic and data visualization tools like Looker, Looker Studio, and Google Analytics (exposure to GA4 preferred), with a knack for translating data into actionable insights
  • Clear understanding of SEO best practices related to EEAT, CWV, and all it takes to be successful as a digital publisher in 2024 and beyond
  • A willingness to embrace change and to adapt strategies on the fly
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated, with the ability to thrive in an agile publishing environment
