2025 SEO Job Report

Last year I published a Q1 state of SEO jobs market that got a lot of attention. In full transparency, that report took FOREVER to put together. That’s why there was never a Q2, Q3, or Q4 follow-up despite many people reaching out for updates. I’m sorry.

But this changes today.

I’m incredibly excited to announce that SEOJobs and Previsible have partnered to bring you the 2025 State of SEO Jobs Report.

This time around, it’s bigger and better. The report is packed with real data, key insights, and helpful context to guide smarter decisions. Value is provided regardless of whether you’re hiring, job hunting, or just trying to keep a pulse on the industry.

👉 SEO Job Openings Declined Sharply in Late 2024

The total number of SEO job openings dropped in Q4, along with the number of companies hiring. Content-related roles in particular, saw a 28% decrease year-over-year.

👉 Technical SEO and Data Skills Are in High Demand

While content marketing remains a staple, technical SEO and data analytics are growing at a faster clip. In Q4 2024, 75% of job listings included technical SEO as a required skill—up from 71% the previous quarter.

👉Median SEO Salaries Dropped Across 2024

The median SEO salary fell from $90,000 in Q1 to $75,000 in Q4, despite high-paying roles (like VP of SEO at $191,850) skewing the top end. This signals increasing pressure on mid-level roles.

👉Remote Work Opportunities Are Shrinking

Only 34% of SEO roles in 2024 were remote, compared to 45% onsite and 21% hybrid. This reflects a broader trend of return-to-office initiatives, especially for in-house positions.

  • Methodology behind ~10k jobs analysed.
  • Exclusive predictions from 12 top SEO industry leaders.
  • Salary insights at the title level.
  • In-demand skills needed for SEO professionals in 2025

(not gated, no games, I promise!)
