Who to hire for your (real) small business (startup size)
If you are a small company and your budget is less than $500 a month your best bet is to hire an independent contractor that is solo (e.g. not associated with a firm). These individuals can often best meet your budget requirements and some have excellent track records at getting rankings for their clients. Some important questions to ask independent contractors include:- (1) How many clients are you currently working on? Ask this because if an SEM contractor is really good they may get overwhelmed with work quickly?
(2) Results? Show me the money! Show me the results you have produced for clients in the past? These are obviously questions but ones that you should match up with referrals the potential contractor or employee has.
(3) What kind of work do you do? SEM is now a three pronged approach you have to look at onsite optimization, offsite optimization, and now social marketing (Twitter and Facebook). You want to hire someone that can do what you cannot. If you can work on your own site then hire a specialist that is really good at social and offsite (linkbuilding).
